SONO AUROS

"Masters of their Instruments"  - Edith Eisler of Strings Magazine

Sono Auros is a trio consisting of the unusual combination of Flute, Cello, and Harp. Lucian Rinando, Flutist, Samuel Magill, Cellist, and Mélanie Genin, Harpist, began performing in the 2017-18 season to enthusiastic and sold-out audiences at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, the Richter Association for the Arts in Danbury, Ct., the Oakland, NJ Public Library Series, and at The Cell Theatre in New York City.

While celebrating their second season in New York City, Sono Auros received a new work from composer Robert Chumbley. Other contemporary works they have performed are Joseph Hallman's "Second to None”.  Much of their repertoire was written for the famous  Barrère-Britt-Salzedo Trio, comprised of the famous flutist Georges Barrère,  cellist Horace Britt, and harpist Carlos Salzedo in the early 20th century.  Of the original music, there are stunning trios by Hungarian composer Laszlo Lajtha, the Americans Wallingford Riegger and Arthur Foote, Belgian composer Joseph Jongen, and French composer Paul Dupin.

In addition, Sonos Auros also performs arrangements that include some masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire, such as the Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp by Debussy in which the viola part is played on cello, the Elegiac Trio by Sir Arnold Bax, also originally for flute, viola, and harp, and works by Debussy arranged for trio.

In 2020 the trio relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina, and have been performing with Harpist Grace Ludtke. Upcoming concerts include the Well-Spring Concert Series in Greensboro, the Salons at Ambleside Gallery, Carol Woods Community in Chapel Hill, and on April 29th, the concert series at Fearrington. In addition, we are announcing the first performance in 70 years of the “Songs of the Shulamite”, a song cycle by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco scored for soprano, flute, harp, and string quartet, which will take place at the Temple Emanuel in Greensboro on May 17, 2023.
